How a success rate is computed
Success rate = animals harvested ÷ hunters afield, for the year and unit shown. The All column uses every animal of the species. Bull and Buck use antlered animals only — for elk, branch-antlered bulls, with spikes counted separately. 6+ pt and 4+ pt use the top point-class tier. The denominator is always total hunters afield, because neither state publishes hunter counts by the animal they were after.
What “not published” means
Montana surveys deer hunters in odd years and elk hunters in even years, so half of all district-years have no hunter count by design. Idaho does not publish point-class data for every unit. When a figure does not exist, the cell says so; the site never fills a gap with an estimate.
Refresh schedule
Harvest data is updated when each state publishes its annual report, typically spring. Regulations are updated for each new season.
